Lady Bobcats Ink Cherry for 2020 Season
PAUL SMITHS N.Y. - Alexandra (Alli) Cherry has committed to joining the Lady Bobcats on the ice next season and on the Volleyball Court. Cherry a Grasonville, Maryland native, played her high school career at Saint Mary’s High School, where she competed as a three-sport athlete in Volleyball and Indoor and Outdoor Track. She was also a member of Tri-Eagles Hockey Club and suited up for the Saint Mary's Men's Hockey team.
Coach Gerrish had this to say about the newest addition to the team; “I first met Alli in March of last year when she visited campus. She visited in the middle of a blizzard with snow up to our knees. Alli’s passion for the school shined, she was attentive, inquisitive, respectful, and overall, just an entirely pleasant young lady. She is the exact type of person I look for when I recruit hockey players – her character is truly exceptional, and I can’t wait for her to be a part of the Women’s Hockey Team and Paul Smith’s College community.”
“Cherry has had a stellar St. Mary's career and is one of the most successful athletes” Saint Mary’s AD Allision Fondale added “I have had the pleasure of working with. Alli is a three-sport athlete at St. Mary's and has been named the teams MVP in all three sports (volleyball, indoor track and outdoor track). She led our volleyball team to our school's first ever conference championship this past fall. Alli is a special athlete that excels in all sports; she played on our basketball and lacrosse teams while also playing club ice hockey and softball. Alli is not only a great athlete, more importantly, she is a great teammate. She puts the needs of her teammates before her own and is a leader in our school that younger students look up to. We look forward to following Alli's career at Paul Smith's as she will be a great addition on and off the ice."
Cherry will join the Paul Smith’s College community and will study Baking this fall. She went on to say “I am very excited to continue my hockey career as well as pursue my love of baking at Paul Smiths College. I look forward to experiencing the beautiful location of PSC and being on a great hockey team coached by Coach Casey!" Cherry added “I am also excited to have the opportunity to continue my volleyball career at PSC. I followed Coach Ritt and the volleyball team in their season into the playoffs and I am looking forward to continuing playing another sport I love under his coaching leadership." also appreciate the support and encouragement from Coach Casey, Coach Ritt, and Mr. Tucker (Athletic Director, PSC) to be a multi sport athlete at the college level.”
