Bobcat’s Golf Adds Two Promising Newcomers
PAUL SMITHS N.Y. – Yankee Small College Conference Coach of the year Rod Bushey has had a busy offseason as he looks to add to the Bobcat’s already strong roster. The Bobcats are coming off their 4th conference title in 5 years and have no sign of slowing down after the addition of Zack Churco of Saranac Lake, NY and the New Hampshire Native and State Champion Daniel Miner.
Churco is a three-sport athlete at Saranac Lake HS, competing in Golf, Basketball and Soccer. High School Coach Ian Breen expressed his pleasure from having worked with Zack Churco the past two seasons at Saranac Lake High School. "Zack has been the top golfer for Saranac Lake High School during both his sophomore and junior years at Saranac Lake, but with the current pandemic, this season is not likely to take place. I was really looking forward to seeing how Zack was going to perform during his final season as a high school player."
Bobcat’s Coach Rod Bushey had this to add about Churco’s future with the team “In talking with Zach, I realized that we were getting an outstanding athlete that had excelled at several sports in high school. Zach has played several years and had led his high school golf team and I knew that he would be a great addition to the team if he decided to play golf. We are so fortunate to have Zach be a part of our YSCC Conference Championship in the fall.” Bushey added “both Assistant Coach Tom Cotter and I are excited that Zach brings leadership and experience and looking forward to working with him on taking his golf game to the collegiate level.”
Miner, of Hopkinton NH, is another bright freshman who will tee off this fall. Miner is also a 3-sport athlete in high school participating in both Basketball and Track in addition to Golf. Miner joined the Golf team during his junior year and quickly moved his way up from being the #3 on the Hopkinton HS team to #1. Dan had the low score at the NH State HS Championships and led the team to their first State Championships. He won the individual title as a junior.
Hopkinton High School Golf Coach David Chase summed up his experience with Daniel, “Paul Smith’s College is really fortunate to be getting Daniel, as he is an absolute workhorse in the classroom as well as on the athletic field. He is very humble, and yet is a natural leader. Everyone seems to gravitate to him.”
“While hitting some balls at the Saranac Inn Golf Club, it was obvious why Daniel is the New Hampshire State Champion,” Coach Bushey stated, “Daniel brings so much talent, enthusiasm, knowledge and a work ethic that any coach would want to have. Both Assistant Coach Tom Cotter and I are privileged and honored to become his coach and mentor for the next four years.”
Keep an eye out for these and other newcomers as the Bobcats look to defend their title next fall!
