Bobcat's Hit the Ice on Senior Night
Paul Smiths College Senior game:
On January 30th the Paul Smith’s College hockey team faced SUNY Canton at the Saranac Lake Civic Center for their senior night game. The hockey team has eight players who will be graduating this year and will be greatly missed. The Bobcats started out strong with a 5-2 lead over SUNY-Canton through the first two periods. Unfortunately, they lost their lead in the last period and continued to go back and forth with SUNY-Canton throughout the last period. Leaving the final score 8-9.
Graduating Sophomore’s:
The Hockey Team has two graduating sophomore’s, #11 Alex Richard and #10 Ryan Savage. Richard has been on the team for the past two years, who as Coach Casey Gerrish explains is “a force on the ice and especially on the fore back”. Richard’s ability to intimidate his opponents will be missed on the team. Ryan Savage joined the team last season and has been a versatile player from the start. Savage’s ability to play both forward and defense has made him a key player for the Bobcats. The Hockey’s team first ever win against SUNY-Canton last season was because of Savage’s stellar play on a penalty kill, assisting on a short-handed goal.
Graduating Seniors:
The team has six graduating seniors this season including, James “Chip” DeMore #18, Matt Frye #89, Nick Ferrara #73, Josh Campbell #68, Tim Fuller #23, and Kyle Bond #15. Chip is known for being a fan favorite he always has his rugby team cheering him on from the stands at home games. Chip displays leadership and amicability on and off the ice and will be greatly missed not only for that but also for his glorious, flowing hair. Frye is the go-to man on the hockey team, he does anything he is asked, from playing goalie in practice, to subbing on a penalty kill. Frye gladly steps up wherever he is needed and always does it with a smile. Frye is also greatly appreciated on the team for bringing up the team GPA with his high grades. Nick Ferrara has worked hard this year to improve his ability on the ice. Ferrara is known for his bowling abilities and used hockey to increase his fitness and physical prowess. Ferrara’s friendly nature will be greatly missed on the team. Josh Campbell can be explained as most improved player since the start of last season. When Campbell joined the team, he had never played on an organized hockey team and he quickly developed into one of the most crucial members on the team. Campbell will be missed for his maturity and devotion to his teammates. Tim Fuller has been one of two captains for the pass two years. Fuller is described as a “born leader” by coach Gerrish. Fuller is able to lead both on and off the ice. His ability is displayed on the ice as he runs the Power Play and unleashed his powerful slapshot on unsuspecting goaltenders. Last but not least graduating senior Kyle Bond has been the other captain alongside Fuller since the start of last season. Bond’s leadership is exhibited through instruction and accountability. Bond’s ability to put up points will leave a large void om the first line next year. The team will greatly miss all their graduating players next season.
