Taylor Sets School Assists Record with Win at WOLBI
Pottersville, NY ~ In an unbelievable display of IQ, awareness, and ball movement, Jack Taylor (Baltimore, MD) has just broken the single-game Paul Smith's College basketball assists record in the Bobcats' 81-66 win against Word of Life.
The senior transfer dished out an astounding 14 assists in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) game on Thursday night as the Bobcats took down the Huskies to move to 4-3 in the conference.
"Last night's game was a big for us," said Taylor. "After a tough weekend in Maine it was important for us to get back into the win column."
The Bobcats were coming off two 30-point conference losses to CMCC and UMA, so the win against the Huskies to move them into fourth place in the YSCC was huge. Head coach Tim Lamay commented on the win and the preparation leading up to the game.
"I was very pleased with our commitment to playing well together in the game," said Lamay. "This was a big emphasis for us in planning to play Word of Life and in the practices leading up to it. This group has remained committed to our team-oriented goals through the highs and lows of our season, and I'm hoping we can continue to build momentum from this win, with two conference road games this weekend," he added.
Leading the Bobcats offensively were Talon Brooks (St. Petersburg, FL) and Larenz Miller (Anchorage, AK) who notched 20 points each. Two other Bobcats hit double digits as Yashiro Hurst Jr. (Muncy, IN) and Manny Belcher (Bridgeport, CT) added 14 and 11 points, respectively. Taylor added three points on a nice basket from behind the arc while contributing two rebounds and one steal to go with his 14 assists. Of the 32 field goals made by PSC, Taylor was involved in 15 of them, which is whopping 44% contribution rate.
"I know my team well and I try to get my guys the ball in spots where they have good opportunities to score," recalled Taylor. "I give credit to my teammates for knocking down shots in an important game and being ready for the dump offs after I drove. We are looking to keep the momentum rolling into this weekend in New Hampshire," he added.
The Bobcats are 4-10 overall and will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to Great Bay CC and NHTI on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's matchup with the Herons is 3pm tip off while Sunday's game at the Lynx will start at 1pm.
