Eliot Soderholm sets WOLBI Course Record and leads Bobcat men to a 2nd place team finish in Cross Country
Eliot Soderholm (Reston, VA/South Lakes HS) established a new course record for the Word of Life Bible Institute 8K course with a finish time of 26:43 to win on Saturday.
Men's 8K: Eliot Soderholm (Reston, VA/South Lakes HS) established a new course record for the Word of Life Bible Institute 8K course with a finish time of 26:43 to win on Saturday, averaging 5:30 per mile or 3:20 per kilometer. This was 15 seconds faster than the mark he set at St. Lawrence University two weeks ago, when he established a new PSC record time for the men's 8K cross country distance.
Bryce Shannon (Sparrow Bush, NY/Port Jervis HS) placed third overall in 28:30, averaging 3:33 per kilometer in a new personal best. Matthew Matis (Susquenhanna, PA/Susquehanna Community HS) placed 14th overall in a time of 31:19, also a PR for this first year forestry student. Brock Poissey (Cadyville, NY/Saranac Central HS) placed 22nd overall in 34:24, taking 24 seconds off his PR set 4 weeks ago.
Timothy James (Lancaster, MA/Minuteman Regional Vocational HS) led a trio of Bobcats across in succession with a time of 35:40. James was followed by Reece Perry (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy) in 36:00, and Aidan Minihan (Newark, DE/The Tatnall School) in 36:18. Devin Stalnaker has done an amazing job of cutting 8 minutes off his 8K time over the past month, finishing the event at Word of Life in 44:42 on Saturday. Devin is working to steadily improve his overall performance each day at practice, and this really shows in his race performances through the season.
Paul Smith's College men placed second with 44 points while Truett – McConnell University from Cleveland, Georgia came away with the team win scoring 32 points. SUNY Canton placed third with 73 points, followed by Clinton CC with 93, and Albany College of Pharmacy with 112 points.
Women's 6K: The Paul Smith's College Women's XC Team competed in the Word of Life Bible Institute (WOLBI) Husky Invitational yesterday in the 6K event. Brooklynn Shumway (Bloomingdale, NY/Saranac Lake HS) paved the way for her teammates as she was the first to cross the finish line in 27:57, averaging 4:39 per kilometer. Brooklynn finished 11th overall and is the first Bobcat to eclipse the 28-minute barrier this season. She took over 2 minutes off her time from two weeks ago at St. Lawrence University.
Chloe Freund (Clinton, NY/Clinton HS) was close behind in 28:12, to finish in 13th place for her best finish of the season, averaging 4:52 per kilometer. Joanna Kerchner (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic HS) finished in 30:24, averaging 5:04 per kilometer to place 18th overall. The women's team was again an incomplete team due to nagging injuries. Despite fielding an incomplete team, the trio have been working well together as each has led the team through at least one meet. This is a small yet a very supportive team.
It currently appears that the team will be complete when they compete at the Cross Country Only Championships in Geneva, NY at Seneca Lake State Park on October 18th.
The women's event was won by Truett-McConnell University from Cleveland, Georgia, as they scored 24 points for the win. Albany College of Pharmacy placed second with 39 points, followed by Word of Life with 74 points, and SUNY Canton in fourth with 84 points.
The PSC cross country teams will be headed to the Cross Country Only Championships (CCOC) meet at Seneca Lake State Park in Geneva, NY on October 18th. This annual championship event features the colleges and universities that do not have indoor, nor outdoor track programs and this levels the playing field for the participating schools.
