2026 Bobcat 5 and 10K Snowshoe Races

Morgan Cheney and Aidan Minihan win the Bobcat 5.3K,

Eliot Soderholm and Bekkie Wright win the 10.6K 

Twenty snowshoe athletes took part in the Bobcat Snowshoe Race at the Paul Smith's College VIC on Saturday, February 21^st, hosted by the Paul Smith's College Snowshoe Team.  Despite the foot of new-fallen snow that dumped onto the area within the previous early evening, the VIC trail grooming crew did a fine job of preparing the 5.3K loop course in advance of the 1 PM race start.  The runners enjoyed temperatures in the mid-20's on Saturday, as well as the natural beauty of the surrounding trees and woodlands covered in another new blanket of snow. 

Women's 5K: Paul Smith's College student, Morgan Cheney (JR: Pulteney, NY) placed 1st overall in the women's 5K with a time of 38:12. PSC graduate student, Nat Ross placed second in 41:40, while incoming student, Olivia Kapuscinski (Oswego, NY) placed third in 48:52.  

Danica Stein (Poultney, VT) won the women's 60+ category in 51:16, followed by 50 – 59 category winner Katina Sayers (Tully, NY) in 54:22.   PSC student, Joanna Kerchner (JR: Bath, PA) placed third in the 20 – 29 category in 1:00:33, good enough for 7th place. 

10K: Eliot Soderholm (JR: Reston, VA) won the challenging 10.6 K course on the VIC trails with a time of 51:26, followed by fellow Smitty, Bryce Shannon (FY: Sparrowbush, NY) who won the 15 – 19 category in 58:51. The tandem of Soderholm and Shannon have dominated the United States and Canadian snowshoe racing scene this winter.  Shannon is new to snowshoe racing, and he is the Junior Men's National Champion (both in the United States and in Canada) and the Junior Men's World Champion, while Soderholm has remained undefeated throughout the season. 

Second in the men's 15 – 19 category is Brock Boissey (FY: Cadyville, NY) with a time of 1:13:24.  PSC graduate, Zack Sprott-Scribner of Saranac Lake placed second in the 20 – 29 category with a time of 1:18:56.  Bekkie Wright, also of Saranac Lake won for the women with a time of 1:47:22. 

Men's 5K: Aidan Minihan (JR: Newark, DE) won his second snowshoe race outright, winning the Bobcat 5K in 34:13, with teammate Cazimir Couble (JR: Spofford, NH) not far behind in 34:54 to place second. Axel Linde (SR: Red Bank, NJ) placed third in 38:12, followed by Reece Perry (FY: Malone, NY) in 39:51. 

Steve Vogal (Plattsburgh, NY) won the 50 – 59 category with a time of 41:06, followed by PSC senior, Noah Keys (LeRoy, NY) in 42:06, and Timothy James (FY: Lancaster, MA) in 43:07.  Devins Stalnaker (FY: Westernville, NY) rounded out the finishers with a time of 1:00:33.
