Bobcats Blank Union
The Paul Smith's College women's hockey team earned their first win of the young season yesterday as they outlasted Union College 1-0 at Frank L. Messa Rink in Schenectady, NY. It was a goaltending display from both sides of the ice as the teams combined for nearly 90 shots with just one goal.
After a scoreless 1st, Lia Poggio (Cumming, GA) teed up a devastating slap shot from the point in the waning minutes of the middle frame on a nice assist from Alanna Hoag (Clinton, MA) to put the Bobcats ahead 1-0. The onslaught of shots continued, but neither team was able to find the back of the net for the rest of the game. The Bobcats ended up with 56 shots on goal, while the Dutchmen finished with 32, all of which were stopped by sophomore goaltender Ashley Finch (Oswego, NY), collecting her first shutout of her career and first of the season. Also contributing to the stalwart display of defense were blueliners Charlotte Kline (Worthington, OH), Sam Peters (Northfield, OH), and Kaleigh Koss (Sweet Valley, PA).
With the win the team gets to 1-2 on the season. Next up for the Bobcats is an ACHA crossover game on November 6th vs. Brockport and an IWCHL league game vs. Union on November 7th, both at the Saranac Lake Civic Center.
