Bobcats Back on Home Ice
The Paul Smith's College men's and women's hockey teams hit the ice in front of 300 fans on Saturday, the first home games at the Saranac Lake Civic Center in almost two years. The women's team dominated play and came away with a 6-2 victory against Brockport while the men's team dropped a 5-1 decision to St. Lawrence University.
The first game of the double-header saw the Lady Bobcats score 6 goals in the first two periods of the game before it was cut short due to a Brockport goaltender injury. Holly Nagel (Buffalo, NY) led the way with two goals, while Sylvia Kuitula (Grand Rapids, MI), Kaleigh Koss (Sweet Valley, PA), Lia Poggio (Cumming, GA), and Abby Hartley (South Hadley, MA) all tallied single finishes.
Charlotte Kline (Worthington, OH) continued her productive career with 2 assists, while Lia Poggio, Rhoda Peterson (Havre, MT), Amanda LaMonda (Saratoga Springs, NY), Megan Kuester (Sioux City, IA), Alanna Hoag (Clinton, MA), and Abby Hartley all added helpers of their own.
Meera Patel (Burnaby, BC, Canada) earned her first win with her first start in net for the Bobcats. She posted a 2.00 goals against average with a .900 save percentage.
The men's hockey team held a 1-0 game going into the 3rd period but were unable to make an impact and ended up dropping a 5-1 defeat to the SLU Sinners. Wyatt Krolczyk (Varysburgh, NY) tallied the lone goal for the Bobcats on a nice play from the point by Mike Hansen (New Hartford, NY). Axel Norbro (Vimmerby, Sweden) had a solid game in net for the Bobcats, backstopping the losing effort with 33 saves on 37 shots and a .892 save percentage.
The next home games for both teams are on Friday, November 19th at the Saranac Lake Civic Center. Puck drop is 4:30pm for the women's team vs. UVM and 7pm for the men's team vs. St. John Fisher. The men's team will then host a Thanksgiving Tournament with games at 3:30pm Saturday November 20th against Bishops University (QC) and the consolation/championship at 9am and 12pm, respectively, on Sunday November 21st.
