Lady Bobcats Defeat NVU-Lyndon on the Road
Paul Smith’s College improve to 2-0-0 on the season.
Lyndonville, V.T. — The Paul Smith’s College women's soccer team beat Northern Vermont University - Lyndon, 6-0, in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon on the road at Lyndon.
Playing in her second collegiate game, freshman forward Samantha Severing (pictured here) tallied a hat-trick as Paul Smith’s College improved to 2-0-0 on the season. Lyndon fell to 0-2.
The Bobcats dominated the match, outshooting the Hornets 25-0 (17 shots on goal) on the day. Paul Smith’s College scored four first-half goals and added two more in the second half. Anna Thrasher recorded her second shutout in two games. The Bobcats received stellar defensive line play from Abby Cancilla, Jamey Roy, Keeley VanValkenburgh, and Rhoda Peterson.
The first goal came in the 10th minute of the match. After a ball was laid back to freshman midfielder Haven Bradt the Ohio-native took a one-time shot from outside the 18 that soared uncontested into the upper right corner to make the score 1-0.
The Bobcats doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 15th minute when first-year midfielder Maddy Jackson received a perfect back pass from forward Hayleigh Gates. Jackson was able to one time the pass perfectly into the bottom right corner of the Hornet’s net for her first goal of the season.
Samantha Severing scored the next three goals of the match to record her hat trick including two breakaway goals and another from a penalty kick when she was taken out within the far-side edge of the 18-yard box. Hayleigh Gates capped off the scoring in the 65th minute with the final goal of the match. Junior forward Allie Lamb directed the ball to Hayleigh Gates. Gates’ initial shot was saved by Lyndon’s goalkeeper but Gates buried her own rebound to cap the onslaught and finish the game 6-0.
The Bobcat's next event will be their home opener on September 14th at 5:00pm versus Davis College Bible Institution. The Paul Smith's Men’s game will follow at 7:00pm.
