Coach Susan Waters named head coach at North Country CC
Assistant Volleyball Coach Susan Waters accepts head coaching opportunity
June 1, 2016
Assistant Volleyball Coach Susan Waters has accepted the opportunity to be the Head Volleyball Coach at North Country Community College. Coach Waters spent 1 season at Paul Smith's College and helped the program make it to its second straight YSCC Conference tournament appearance. Waters also had an intergral part in developing YSCC All-Conference player Mary Calabrese.
Coach Waters on her experience at Paul Smith's and the opportunity ahead:
"When I became a passionate volleyball player as an adult, I realized I had missed out by not playing school sports. I was drawn to coaching by the prospect of building self-esteem in young women.
I landed the coaching position at Saranac Lake Middle School in 2015 on my third attempt and was soon approached to assist Coach Carpenter at Paul Smith's College. So my inaugural coaching sesaon was one of total immersion!"

"I never imagined a college coaching opportunity in my first season. The Bobcats program is an intimate one and Coach Carpenter leads it with passion. Being part of the team cemented my desire to dig deeper into coaching and gave me a great foundation in a very short time."
"I'm eager to grow with the new volleyball program at NCCC and give the athletes an experience they'll carry off the court and into their lives."
"I will be head coaching both Junior Varsity for SLCS this fall along with NCCC.
I'm excited that Coach Carpenter and I will continue to collaborate on community volleyball programs like our summer youth camp. And the Bobcats & Saints just might meet on the court this season."

Head Coach Christina Carpenter on Coach Waters impact to PSC Volleyball:
"Susan and I first started communication almost exactly a year ago to rally together for a mutual personal interest "playing volleyball." Susan was putting together a women's adult team to compete in tournaments throughout winter. I was unavailable but when May rolled around and I was still seeking an assistant coach, Susan came to mind. Extremely grateful and excited, Susan was welcomed to our program."
"Many wonderful things took place as the two of us attended a GMS coaching clinic together. We collaborated practice plans, developed game strategies and intently focused on being a positive outlet for our young athletes."
"I can not thank Susan enough for her time, energy and support for the Bobcats and myself. Realizing I can't keep her as an assistant forever, I encouraged and fully supported her taking on the new role as the NCCC Women's Head Volleyball Coach. Susan will be missed as our assistant but she will always be there as a friend. Keep the ball flying Susan!"
YSCC All-Conference Player Mary Calabrese on Coach Waters:
"As happy as a I am for Coach Waters to accept the position at North Country, I will truly miss her and the mentor she became for me. She helped me grow as a player and appreciate the game of volleyball even more. I know Coach Waters will do amazing things at North Country and will continue to help and encourage others as she has done with our team."
Congratulations to Coach Waters. A search for a new assistant volleyball coach has begun immediately.
