Bobcats Shoot Season Best at Great Bay Invitational
Concord, NH & Portsmouth, NH ~ The Paul Smith's College golf team is playing its best golf just at the right time. Having competed in back-to-back days at two different tournaments, the Bobcats finished Sunday's match at the Great Bay Invitational having scored the lowest team round of the season, just in time for this weekend's Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Championship in Sanford, ME.
On Saturday at the NHTI Invitational, sophomore Nick Ogden (Queensbury, NY) shot a team low of 91. Captain Zach Hale (East Burke, VT) and Gabe Clark (Ogdensburg, NY) were next best with rounds of 96, followed by Brandon Wardecki (Avoca, PA) with a 99 and Owen Kime (Waterloo, NY) with a 104.
"I was making good contact and seeing the results of the practice we've put in over the course of the season," said Ogden.
Sunday's match in Portsmouth, NH at the Pease Golf Course was where the Bobcats really shined. Captain Owen Kime fired off a very nice round of 86, while Ogden mirrored his play from the day before with another 91. Wardecki and Clark were just behind Ogden with a 92, and Hale finished the day with a respectable 97 to bring the team total to 361, the low team round of the season thus far.
"I was feeling the swing and putting myself in good positions to score," recalled Kime when asked about his low round of 86.
Head coach Rod Bushey was proud of his group and their late season improvement, commenting on the preparation leading up to this past weekend's doubleheader. "We focused on eliminating some of the mistakes we've been making in past tournaments. With a good week of practice and a great showing last week, the team is looking forward to another great week and carrying over that momentum this weekend," said Bushey.
The team will travel to to Sanford, ME where they'll compete for the YSCC Championship at the Sanford Golf Club on Sunday.
