Men's Basketball Announces 2017 Recruiting Class
Paul Smith's- Head Men's Basketball Coach Dominique Boone announces his second recruiting class for the Bobcats. The class includes Nazmir Nelson, Taylor Huyghue, Shane Stone, Nick Frasier, Donovan Miller, Anthony Diaz, and Patrick Simmonds.
"In year one, we wanted to find our core guys. In year two we want to add guys to our core that will represent Paul Smith's and our basketball program with respect and class," Boone said. "I think that these young men fit our needs for that on and off the court and look forward to watching their growth into respectable and responsible men."
Added Boone, " I would like to give a lot of credit to our players and coaching staff. Our players did a wonderful job making these young men feel at home on their visit. In addition our coaching staff did a great job identifying not only talented individuals, but talented individuals with high character. I very excited to work with "TEAM 2" and improving on our previous year."
Nazmir Nelson - Lincoln High School - Jersey City, NJ
Nelson, who plays guard, averaged 15 ppg to go along with 5 assist his senior year. "I chose PSC because I felt very welcomed on my first visit. I also liked that the campus is calm and relaxing," said Nelson. "I am looking forward to a good, hard working season and getting my school work done."
Nelson plans to major in Business.
Taylor Huyghue - Martin Luther High School - North Babylon, NY
Huyghue, who plays guard, was an All-League selection that averaged 18 ppg to go along with 6 assist and 4 rebounds his senior year. "I chose PSC because I enjoy the environment and feeling the school gives off. At PSC, the first time visiting the school you feel at home. My favorite thing about the campus are the friendly staff, students, and the athletic center" said Huyghue. "I look forward to continue to develop as a student and an athlete. I am eager to learn and be challenged to the best of my abilities."
Huyghue plans to major in Biology.
Shane Stone - Upper Moreland High School - Willow Grove, PA
Stone, who plays forward, was an All-League Selection who helped his team to the PIAA State Playoffs. Stone also averaged 12 ppg and 8 rpg. "I chose Paul Smith's College because I knew it was a great fit for my passion of the culinary arts and basketball. I also liked that the athletic center has two seperate gyms which means there is always some where to shoot," said Stone. "I am looking forward to a great season and academic year in my freshman year at Paul Smith's."
Stone plans to major in Culinary Arts.
Nick Frasier - Johnstown High School - Caroga Lake, NY
Frasier, who plays forward, averaged 13 ppg and 8 rpg. "I chose PSC because I love the outdoors and it's an amazing environment. I loved how everyone was friendly and welcoming," said Frasier. "I am excited to make many great memories through PSC and basketball."
Frasier plans to major in Fisheries and Wildlife
Donovan Miller - SUNY Adirondack - Glens Falls, NY
Miller, who plays forward, shot 56% from the field and grabbed 8 rpg. He was also a student leader on campus serving as class president and president of student activities while at SUNY Adirondack. "I decided to come to Paul Smith's College because I hear the hospitality program is one of the best in the country. I also transferred into the HEOP program at PSC and it really helped me out a lot. I also liked how everyone was so helpful and I love the location of the campus," said Miller. "I am really excited to be a student leader on campus and making new friends. I think my leadership experience can really help me make an impact at PSC."
Miller plans to major in Hospitality and Tourism Management
Anthony Diaz - Our Saviour Lutheran High School - Middletown, NY
Diaz, who plays wing, averaged 19 ppg his senior year. "I chose Paul Smith's College because they accepted me for who I am and I know PSC will make me better not only as a basketball player, but as an individual. Coach knows my weaknesses and is willing to help them become my strengths. I enjoyed my visit to PSC, but what stood out was the welcoming feeling on campus by not only the team, but other students on campus as well," said Diaz. "I look forward to helping the team succeed in every way possible and to represent the program in the greatest light on and off the court with my teammates."
Diaz plans to major in Communications.
Patrick Simmonds - Assurance Christian Academy/ Eastern Florida State College - Palm, FL
Simmonds, who plays guard, averaged 18ppg to go along with 6 assist his senior year. Simmonds also just finished his first year as a student at ESFC. "I chose PSC because I felt like this would be a good place to really improve in the classroom and take my game to the next level," said Simmonds. "I am looking forward to competing with the guys and working hard to be the best team we can be."
Patrick plans to major in Hospitality and Tourism Management.
